Hygiene appointments:

Fissure sealants:

Fissure sealants are coatings, which seal the fissures in back teeth, protecting them against decay.

The weakest part of the enamel are the fissures found on the ‘chewing’ surface of the molars and premolars. Teeth are most vulnerable to decay when they have just emerged through the gums, between the ages of 6 to 12 years. They are vulnerable as it takes several months for the fluoride from toothpaste to penetrate and toughen the enamel.

By fissure sealing children’s permanent teeth as and when they emerge we can prevent dental decay. This is possibly the best investment a parent can make towards their children’s dental health.

There are two main types of mouthguard.

The sportsguard is invaluable on the playing field- especially during contact or high impact sports!

Mouthguards cushion blows to the teeth and jaws. They are comfortable as they are custom made and are very cheap compared to the price of restoring a shattered smile! They’re available in all team colours.

The nightguard is worn whilst asleep by people who either clench or grind their teeth at night. This prevents damage to the joints of the jaw (called TMJ dysfunction) and excessive wear of the teeth.

Protect your smile.

Oral cancer:

We know that most people do not like to talk about cancer-so we’ll be brief.

Mouth cancer is very common. People who smoke and drink are most susceptible.

We automatically examine your mouth for cancer and other diseases every 6 months during your dental check up, regardless of your age or whether you smoke or drink.

Early detection greatly increases your prognosis.

We don’t make a fuss of this, but we just thought you would like to know we’re keeping an eye on things.
